If any of you are like my family, your tree went up the day after Thanksgiving! There is nothing more beautiful than a lit tree in the living room through the holidays. Although they are beautiful, there is a small risk of a tree fire so here is some tree etiquette keep you safe.
1. Choose a fresh tree. Make sure that when you touch it the needles stay in tact.
2. Slice a clean cut to the bottom of the tree to make it easier for it to drink from the stand.
3. Select a space that is at least 3ft away from fireplaces, candles, heat vents, basically any heating or fire.
4. Check to make sure you are not blocking any emergency exits.
5. Add water to the base everyday, this will keep the tree alive longer. (add some sugar to the water to boost the life of your tree)
6. Use christmas lights that are in good working condition. If they are frayed or have broken bulbs it is time to replace them. Always unplug the lights when leaving the house and before bed. Candles are not a safe tree light.
7. Once the holidays are over don't leave the dead tree around. It is not safe left in the home or garage.
After everything is checked off the fire safety list I guess all thats left to decide is if the star or Angel goes on top!
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday!
